washington state, the last post.

Sorry it took a while to get my last post up. After this, it's back to weddings, portraits, virtual tours, aerials, art, sports, etc. The trip was so great, I had a blast. I will say that it's nice to be back in Denton, Texas. One thing I will miss are scenes like this:

Three falls next to each other. These were quite larger than they look in the photos.

The tree on the left we saw while hiking. That's water vapor coming of the tree as a result of the sun.

above the cloud line..

The blue flowers resembled bluebonnets. Reminding me of home.

on that note, I'll leave ya'll with one last photo. Brady on top of beach logs taking a picture into the sunset.

JUMP

Washing State trip - wildlife

I've never gotten into wildlife as much as I've wanted to. I love shooting it, most of my stuff are images I've stumbled upon.

Olympic national park is known for it's elk, yet I never saw one. On the other hand, I seemed to find an abundance of black tailed deer.

These are all in different locations. on the left and shown below are two fawns (spelling?).

They were fun to watch, and it was interested to watch the mom's reaction to me getting closer and closer (mom not shown). They were not shy at all if you approached slowly and calmly.

now, at the coast line. I don't know birds very well. These were enormous black birds, perhaps ravens? This one is eating a washed up crab. :)

now, each of these three images shown along are nice, but shown together and you start to wonder.. "did that jerk photographer run toward them with him camera to get a picture of them flying off". the answer is "yes". they only flew in a circle and landed about 10 feet from where they started, harmless.

just a little critter. there were lots of squirrels there, but they were all about half the size of the one's in Texas. You know what they say though "everything's bigger in texas". certainly applies for squirrels.

I shot images of this bald eagle swooping down and stealing a fish from a seal, knocking the seal off a log into the water. amazing. The pictures aren't any good because they're so far from the action, but after careful analysis, Brady (my friend who came along on the trip) and I came to this conclusion.

Does Braden count as wildlife?..

washington - mt rainier in infrared

Mount rainier is a beautiful place, if you ever can go, go. Waterfalls and greenery everywhere, glaciers, wildlife, the works. Those posts to come. The image below is taken in infrared.

This is a screen capture from the editing program I use. This shows a nice variety of images some with IR. I'll list them for those interested.

top 3- All normal shots. just me composing
img #16 - an IR image, auto white balance.
img #17 - a normal image
img #18 - a custom white balance IR shot.
(vegetation is white in IR, this is your white source)
img #19 - normal shots converted to black and white
img #20 - IR shot, converted to black and white

I'm fond of this shot. At the beginning of the trip, I avoided having man-made objects in my nature shots, but decided to start implementing them in. That small little fence adds a factor into the image that makes me want to be there, standing on that ledge. It creates a more personal feeling for me.

This was my favorite IR shot from the trip. I didn't shoot any infrared until the last day. Shame on me. This is a little lake, just south of mount rainier. The water was ripply, but the slow shutter makes it smooth and reflective. fun stuff.

Washing State trip - the coastline.

Washington's coastline is gorgeous.

First off, the west coast is not the typical beach I'm accustom to. The forest backs all the way to the edge of the continent. You have to hike to get there.

The beach is filled with logs torn away from the land by waves. Neat stuff, then there's the little rocky islands with greenery on top. It's like out of a movie.

Looking toward Canada, the north coast. A cloudy day, so you can't see the horizon. We experienced a lot of clouds and rainy weather. But the beach was still much more enjoyable than in the forest. This is my "desktop background shot".

Trees without green. This was weird to see. Of course, this is about 10 feet from the Pacific, that might have something to do with it.

This is at the most northwest point of the US, called cape flattery.

Sorry so many pictures in the post. I just loved the beach/coast area so much. It was nice to get away from the rain for a little while, and the sand was super soft.

WA state trip - the rainforest

Yep, rainforest. Olympic national park is home to the only rainforest in the lower 48 states. It's not a tropical rainforest, but a moderate one. So no, no moneys and macaws, but still some very unique plant life, animals and lots of rain.

this here is a tree that has fallen and turned into a host for other plants. Since greenery is everywhere, there's no room on the ground, and plants all compete to thrive, they jump on this thing and start growing. This one is pretty new, but you can see 4-5 trees in areas in a perfect line, all grown from a host log like this one.

To the left is a maple tree, doesn't look like much of one, but it most certainly is. The picture on the right I took to show my uncle and cousin who own a payphone business. I later decided that I loved the picture.

pictures don't do this place justice, it was so amazing. The rain made it hard to photograph too.

Here is a nice trail. This shot sucks me in and makes me want to explore some more. Note, not all the trails were like this, this is just one area of the enormous national forest.

WA state trip - Day 1

Alright, I'm back from the big trip.
I know I said "lots of pics to come", but there are just way too many, so I'm going to break the posts up a tad.

First day was spent in the city, (Seattle), we stocked up on supplies before we headed out for a week in the wilderness. The skys were clear! I was excited to see the space needle.

Some people refer to this area as "frasier point". It gave a wonderful view of the skyline. I have many shots of it, including close ups. This was at 70mm.

here was our rental car. Nissan Sentra. I want one now.

This was a pedestrian bridge we took over a busy street. There's so many people outdoors, walking and bike riding there compared to what I'm used to.

This was the capitol building. So pretty inside.

More posts coming. More nature, some wildlife.
I might post day by day, maybe according to geographical location... we'll see.

Griffin and Jessalyn

My to-be niece and nephew. They are adorable. This shoot was before I went out of town, but I wanted to make this post first. Trip pictures are on their way ya'll.

Look, a perfect pose. You don't get that everyday with children. to the right is Griffin with the grass Jessalyn put on his head. hehe. This was his first time in grass. I think he enjoyed it.

Published in US weekly.

I'm out of town right now, so this is lame camera-phone post, but I wanted to let everyone know that my photo is in US weekly this week. So pick one up or just take a look if you get a chance. Hurry, it will be replaced really soon by the newer issue.

Katherine Voelker shoot

I know Katherine from shooting the UNT dance team, she's no longer with them, as she now dances professionally as a Dallas Stars Girl.

We found this amazing ally way with old cars and car parts. Bricks, plants, flaking paint on wood. The whole works. Loved it. I won't reveal the location, so don't even ask. :)

We of course had to incorporate a little dance. Example to the right. We took a few photos in this spot in different dancer-like poses.

Here's one of the old cars. Sources tell me it's a 55 Chevy. I love the lighting on this, particularly the backlight strobe and it's effect on the interior ceiling of the car.

It was a good shoot. She is very pretty and she now has a nice variety of shots for her portfolio. Sarah assisted. Thanks Sarah.
